Clarity for your healing journey
We believe that true wellness begins with understanding. Here are answers to the most common questions we receive, designed to help you step into your care with total confidence.
General & about us
We believe you deserve to feel fully informed before starting your care. Here are answers to the most common questions about our approach, our technology, and how we help your family thrive.
How is Bloom Wellness different from a traditional chiropractor?
While many chiropractors focus solely on back pain or temporary relief, our focus is on the nervous system. We use advanced Insight Scanning technology to detect hidden stress and tension that may be affecting your overall health. Our goal isn’t just to patch a symptom, but to correct the root cause so your body can function and heal the way it was designed to.
What can I expect during my first visit?
Your first visit is dedicated to discovery. We don’t guess with your health, so we start with a comprehensive consultation and a full suite of neurological scans to measure your stress levels and adaptability. We do not typically adjust on the first visit; instead, we analyze your data to build a customized care plan, which we review with you on your second visit.
Is chiropractic care safe for infants and children?
Absolutely. Pediatric adjustments are incredibly gentle—using no more pressure than you would use to check the ripeness of a tomato. We do not “crack” or use heavy force. Instead, we use specific, light-touch contacts to release tension from birth trauma or developmental stress, helping children sleep better, digest better, and hit their milestones with ease.
Why would a newborn need to see a chiropractor?
Birth, even a “natural” one, can be a traumatic event for a baby’s spine and nervous system. The physical pressure of birth can cause tension in the neck and cranial bones, leading to issues like colic, nursing difficulties, and reflux. Early evaluation allows us to clear this interference immediately, setting the stage for optimal development.
Do you use the Webster Technique for pregnancy?
Yes. Dr. Alexa and Dr. Patty are experienced in the Webster Technique, a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment that reduces interference to the nervous system and balances pelvic muscles and ligaments. This optimizes pelvic function during pregnancy and birth, offering a more comfortable pregnancy and an easier delivery.
Do you accept insurance?
To provide the highest quality, uncompromised care for your family, we are an out-of-network provider. Insurance often limits care to “pain relief” only, whereas we focus on correction and wellness. However, we can provide you with a “superbill” (an itemized receipt) that you can submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement, and we accept HSA and FSA payments.
What are the "scans" you talk about? Does it hurt?
We use the Insight CLA Scanning system. These scans are completely non-invasive, radiation-free, and painless. They use thermal and electromyography sensors to measure heat and muscle tone along your spine, giving us a visual map of how stress is affecting your autonomic nervous system. It is safe for everyone, including pregnant moms and newborns.
Do I need a referral to get a massage?
No, you do not need a referral. Our massage therapy stands alone as a powerful therapeutic tool, but it works best when paired with chiropractic care. We specialize in prenatal, lymphatic, and deep tissue modalities that complement your adjustments by addressing the soft tissue memory of your body.
How often will I need to come in?
Because every nervous system is different, we do not offer cookie-cutter plans. After your initial scans, we will recommend a frequency of care based specifically on your stress levels and health goals. As your nervous system stabilizes and your scans improve, your frequency of care will decrease as you transition into wellness maintenance.
Will I get adjusted on the same day as my exam?
Typically, no. We take the time to analyze your scans and X-rays (if taken) thoroughly before delivering an adjustment. This ensures your care is precise and safe. On your second visit (the Report of Findings), we will explain everything we found and, once you are ready to move forward, you will receive your first specific adjustment.
Perinatal Care
Comprehensive, nervous system-focused care supporting your body’s innate intelligence through pregnancy using the gentle, pelvic-balancing Webster Technique.
Is chiropractic care safe during pregnancy?
Yes, it is extremely safe. We use specific, gentle techniques that avoid unnecessary pressure on the abdomen. Our goal is to reduce nervous system stress and balance the pelvis to support both mom and baby.
What is the Webster Technique?
The Webster Technique is a specialized chiropractic analysis and adjustment that reduces interference to the nervous system and balances pelvic muscles and ligaments. This optimizes pelvic function, potentially allowing the baby to assume the best possible position for birth.
When should I start chiropractic care during pregnancy?
You can start at any time! However, starting early in the first trimester allows us to support your body through the massive structural and hormonal changes of pregnancy, preventing discomfort before it begins.
Can you help with breech presentation?
While we do not physically turn babies (that is an OB procedure called an ECV), we use the Webster Technique to balance the pelvis and relax round ligaments. This creates more space, often allowing the baby to turn head-down naturally on their own.
Does chiropractic help with sciatica and round ligament pain?
Absolutely. Sciatica and ligament pain are often caused by pelvic misalignment shifting the body’s center of gravity. We realign the pelvis to relieve pressure on the sciatic nerve and reduce tension on the ligaments supporting the uterus.
Can I get adjusted right up until my due date?
Yes. Many of our mothers get adjusted weekly in their final month to keep the pelvis mobile and the nervous system calm, which can help facilitate a smoother, shorter labor.
Is the table comfortable for a pregnant belly?
Yes. We use pregnancy pillows and tables with breakaway sections that allow you to lie face-down safely and comfortably, with zero pressure on your baby bump.
Do you take X-rays of pregnant patients?
No. We never take X-rays of pregnant patients. We rely on our clinical exams, palpation, and safe Insight Scans (which are radiation-free) to guide your care.
Can chiropractic care help with postpartum recovery?
Yes. The “fourth trimester” is physically demanding due to nursing, lifting, and hormonal shifts. Adjustments help restore proper biomechanics after birth and support your nervous system as you adapt to motherhood.
Do I need a referral from my OB or Midwife?
No referral is necessary to see us, though we love collaborating with local birth providers and often co-manage care to ensure you are fully supported.
Family Care
Proactive wellness for the whole household, correcting spinal misalignments to improve sleep, energy, and adaptability for healthy adults and seniors.
Why should healthy adults see a chiropractor?
Pain is often the last symptom to show up. We focus on proactive wellness—keeping your nervous system clear of interference so you sleep better, manage stress more effectively, and prevent injuries before they happen.
Can you help with "tech neck" and desk posture?
Yes. Modern life involves constant forward head posture (looking at phones/screens), which strains the cervical spine. We correct these subluxations to reduce tension headaches and restore proper neck curvature.
Do you treat seniors?
Absolutely. Chiropractic care is vital for healthy aging. Gentle adjustments help maintain mobility, improve balance/coordination to prevent falls, and manage osteoarthritis discomfort naturally.
Can my spouse and I get adjusted together?
Yes! We love seeing families together. We can schedule back-to-back appointments to make it convenient for your household routine.
Does insurance cover family wellness care?
Most insurance covers acute pain relief but limits “maintenance” or wellness care. To provide uncompromised care, we are out-of-network but provide superbills for you to submit for potential reimbursement.
Will adjustments hurt?
No. We use a variety of techniques ranging from manual adjustments to instrument-assisted low-force methods. We always tailor the pressure to your comfort level and body type.
How does chiropractic help with stress?
Chronic stress locks your body in “fight or flight” mode (sympathetic dominance). Adjustments stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest), helping your body physically downregulate stress.
Do I have to come forever?
No, but many patients choose to. Once your initial issue is resolved, we offer wellness plans to maintain your progress, much like going to the gym or dentist to maintain health.
Can chiropractic help with my digestion?
The nervous system controls every organ, including the stomach and intestines. By clearing interference in the lower spine, we often see improvements in regularity and digestive comfort.
What if I have had back surgery in the past?
We can still help. We will avoid the surgically modified areas and focus on the segments above and below to ensure the rest of your spine is moving correctly, reducing strain on the surgical site.
Pediatric Adjustments
Gentle, specific corrections for infants and children to release tension from birth, supporting better sleep, digestion, and developmental milestones.
Is it safe to adjust a baby?
Yes. Pediatric adjustments look nothing like adult adjustments. We use the amount of pressure you’d use to check a ripe tomato—typically just a light, sustained touch to release tension.
Why would a newborn need chiropractic care?
Birth is a physically traumatic event, even with a C-section. Strain on the neck and cranial bones during delivery can cause nursing issues, colic, and sleep disturbances that we can gently correct.
Can you help with colic and reflux?
Yes. These are often signs of an overstressed nervous system (stuck in fight-or-flight) or vagus nerve irritation. Gentle adjustments help calm the system, allowing for better digestion and settlement.
Do you treat ear infections?
We do not “treat” the infection, but we adjust the upper cervical spine to improve the drainage of the eustachian tubes. This prevents fluid buildup, allowing the body to heal naturally and often preventing recurrence.
Will my child cry during the adjustment?
Ideally, no. Most babies sleep right through it or smile! If a child is hesitant, we go at their pace, play games, or adjust them while they sit in a parent’s lap to keep them comfortable.
Can chiropractic help with ADHD and sensory processing?
Yes. We focus on the “brake pedal” of the nervous system. By reducing spinal tension, we help calm the sensory input to the brain, often resulting in better focus, emotional regulation, and behavior.
What about bedwetting?
Bedwetting in older children can be linked to interference in the sacral nerves that control the bladder. Correcting these misalignments can improve bladder communication and control.
How do you scan children?
Our Insight Scans are safe and non-invasive. For kids, we mostly use the Thermal Scan (rolling a sensor up the back), which takes seconds and gives us a clear picture of their autonomic nervous system stress.
Do kids need to come as often as adults?
Usually, children respond much faster than adults because they don’t have decades of accumulated stress. Their care plans are typically shorter and less frequent.
Do you help with breastfeeding/latching issues?
Yes. If a baby has neck tension (torticollis) or cranial misalignment, they may be physically unable to open their jaw wide or turn their head comfortably. Releasing this tension often immediately improves the latch.
Midwifery & Birth Services
Holistic support for home birth, combining clinical safety with deep trust in your body’s wisdom for an empowered delivery experience.
What is the difference between a Midwife and a Doula?
A Midwife is a primary healthcare provider trained to manage pregnancy and deliver babies clinically. A Doula provides emotional and physical support but does not perform medical tasks. Dr. Alexa is a Licensed Midwife.
Is home birth safe?
For low-risk, healthy pregnancies, studies show home birth is as safe as hospital birth, with significantly lower rates of unnecessary interventions. We screen carefully to ensure you are a safe candidate for out-of-hospital birth.
What pain relief options are available at home?
We use natural pain management: hydrotherapy (water birth), massage, position changes, counter-pressure, and the freedom to move. We do not offer epidurals or narcotics at home.
Can I have a water birth?
Yes! We offer water birth options. Warm water is incredibly effective for pain relief, relaxation, and easing the transition for the baby.
What happens if there is an emergency?
We carry emergency equipment (oxygen, anti-hemorrhage medication, resuscitation gear) and are trained to handle complications. If a transfer is needed, we accompany you to the nearest hospital for seamless care.
Do you offer prenatal care?
Yes. Our midwifery care includes a complete schedule of prenatal visits (monthly, then bi-weekly, then weekly), monitoring both your health and the baby’s growth, just like an OB office but with longer, more personal appointments.
Can I do chiropractic care and midwifery together?
Absolutely. It is the ideal combination! Using chiropractic to keep the pelvis balanced while receiving midwifery care ensures you are physically and emotionally prepared for birth.
Do you perform ultrasounds and labs?
We can draw standard labs in-office. We refer out for ultrasounds to trusted local imaging centers, so you still get all the standard medical screenings.
Do you accept insurance for midwifery?
Midwifery coverage varies by plan. We are out-of-network but can provide a detailed verification of benefits to see if your insurance covers out-of-hospital birth or midwifery services.
Do you provide postpartum care?
Yes, this is a major benefit of midwifery. We come to your home for the initial postpartum visits so you don’t have to take a newborn out. We monitor your recovery and the baby’s feeding/weight gain closely for 6 weeks.
Craniosacral Therapy
A subtle, hands-on therapy that releases deep tension in the central nervous system to relieve migraines, stress, and infant feeding issues.
What is Craniosacral Therapy?
CST is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the craniosacral system (the membranes and fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord). It releases deep tension to improve whole-body health and performance.
Does it involve cracking or force?
No. The touch is extremely light—about the weight of a nickel. It involves listening to the body’s rhythms and holding specific points to allow tissues to unwind naturally.
Can CST help my baby?
Yes! It is incredible for infants with misshapen heads (plagiocephaly), tongue ties, latch issues, or birth trauma. It gently releases cranial tension to help them feed and sleep better.
How is this different from chiropractic?
Chiropractic focuses on the alignment of the spinal joints and nervous system function. CST focuses on the flow of cerebrospinal fluid and the tension in the fascial system/cranial bones. They work beautifully together.
What conditions does it treat in adults?
It is highly effective for migraines, TMJ (jaw pain), chronic fatigue, post-concussion symptoms, and stress-related disorders.
Do I stay fully clothed?
Yes. You remain fully clothed and lie comfortably on a massage table during the session.
How many sessions will I need?
Response varies. Some people feel a shift after one session; others with chronic history may need a series of sessions to peel back the layers of tension.
Is it normal to feel emotional during CST?
Yes. “Somato-emotional release” can happen. As physical tension leaves the body, stored emotions associated with that tension may also release. This is a healthy part of healing.
Can I drive home after?
Yes, though you may feel deeply relaxed or “floaty.” We recommend taking a few minutes to walk or drink water before driving if you feel groggy.
Does insurance cover CST?
It is rarely covered directly by insurance unless billed as part of manual therapy, but we can provide a receipt for your HSA/FSA records.
Piezowave
Advanced acoustic wave therapy that targets soft tissue injuries, breaking up scar tissue and stimulating natural healing for chronic pain.
What is Piezowave therapy?
Piezowave is a type of Myofascial Acoustic Compression Therapy. It uses sound waves (not electric shocks) to target tissue at varying depths, stimulating the body’s natural healing response and breaking up scar tissue.
Is it painful?
It can be uncomfortable but usually “hurts so good.” The machine detects pain points—when we pass over healthy tissue, you feel nothing. When we hit damaged tissue, you feel a dull ache/pressure, which confirms we are treating the right spot.
What conditions does it treat?
It is excellent for chronic tendon issues: Plantar Fasciitis, Tennis Elbow, Rotator Cuff tendonitis, Runner’s Knee, and trigger points that haven’t responded to other treatments.
How long is a session?
Sessions are quick, typically lasting 10–20 minutes depending on the size of the area being treated.
How many treatments do I need?
Most conditions show significant improvement within 3 to 6 sessions. We usually schedule them once or twice a week.
Is there downtime after?
No downtime. You can resume normal activities immediately, though we recommend avoiding high-impact exercise on the specific area for 24 hours to let it heal.
Can I combine this with chiropractic adjustments?
Yes. Breaking up soft tissue adhesions with Piezowave often makes the chiropractic adjustment hold better because the muscles aren’t pulling the spine back out of alignment.
Are there side effects?
Side effects are minimal. You might experience slight redness or temporary soreness in the treated area, similar to how you feel after a deep tissue massage.
Is it safe if I have metal implants?
Yes, usually. Unlike MRI or electrical stim, acoustic waves can often be used safely near hardware, but we will evaluate your specific case to be sure.
Why choose Piezowave over cortisone shots?
Cortisone masks pain and can weaken tissue over time. Piezowave actually regenerates tissue by increasing blood flow and stimulating collagen production for long-term healing.
Massage Therapy
Therapeutic bodywork integrating medicupping and warm bamboo to resolve pain, improve circulation, and restore natural balance for prenatal and general needs.
Do I need a referral to book a massage?
No, our massage therapy services are open to everyone, whether you are a chiropractic patient or not.
Is massage safe during pregnancy?
Yes! We specialize in prenatal massage. We use specific bolstering systems so you can lie face-down safely, or side-lying positioning to ensure you and your baby are comfortable and secure.
What is Medicupping?
Medicupping uses glass or plastic cups to create suction. This lifts the tissue (rather than compressing it), which improves circulation, drains stagnant fluids, and releases deep adhesions without the pain of deep pressure.
Will cupping leave marks?
It can. The “marks” are not bruises; they are cellular debris and stagnant blood being drawn to the surface. They usually fade within a few days to a week.
Why do you use warm bamboo?
Warm bamboo tools allow us to reach deep layers of muscle tissue with broad, consistent pressure. The heat melts facial restriction faster than hands alone, providing deep relief.
What is Lymphatic Drainage massage?
This is a very light, rhythmic technique designed to move lymph fluid. It is excellent for reducing swelling (edema) during pregnancy, boosting immunity, or recovering from surgery.
Should I get massaged before or after my adjustment?
Generally, massage before an adjustment relaxes the muscles, making the adjustment easier and more effective. However, either order is beneficial.
How much water should I drink after?
We recommend drinking extra water for 24 hours. Massage releases toxins and metabolic waste from muscle fibers; water helps flush this system out so you don’t feel sore or groggy.
Can I request a specific pressure?
Absolutely. We offer customized sessions ranging from relaxation to deep tissue. We tailor the pressure every single visit to match exactly what your body needs that day.
How soon after birth can I come in?
You can come in as soon as you feel ready! Postpartum massage helps flush out fluids, regulate hormones, and relieve the upper back tension from nursing and holding the baby.
Auto Accidents & Injuries
Specialized evaluation to detect hidden whiplash and soft-tissue injuries early, handling insurance paperwork so you can focus entirely on recovery.
I don't feel pain yet. Should I still get checked?
Yes. Adrenaline often masks pain for days. We use exams to detect hidden soft-tissue injuries early, preventing permanent scar tissue formation.
What is the "14-Day Rule" in Florida?
In Florida, you must seek medical care within 14 days of an accident to access your full Personal Injury Protection (PIP) benefits. Missing this window can result in a loss of coverage.
Do you handle the insurance paperwork?
Yes. We handle the complex documentation and collaborate directly with your attorney and auto insurance to support your claim so you can focus on healing.
Can a 5mph crash really cause injury?
Yes. Vehicles are designed to withstand low-speed impact, but that force is transferred to the occupants. Even minor “fender benders” can cause whiplash and spinal misalignment.
What is whiplash?
Whiplash is a soft tissue injury to the neck caused by a rapid back-and-forth motion. It can cause neck pain, headaches, dizziness, and blurred vision if not treated properly.
Will I need a lawyer?
While not required, we often recommend working with an attorney to ensure your medical bills are covered. We can refer you to trusted local personal injury attorneys if needed.
Do you take X-rays for accident cases?
Yes. If clinically indicated, we will take X-rays to rule out fractures and visualize the alignment of the spine after trauma.
How is this different from going to the ER?
ERs focus on life-threatening injuries like fractures or internal bleeding. We focus on functional recovery—rehabilitating the soft tissue and realigning the spine to prevent chronic pain.
Can I just take pain medication?
Medication masks symptoms but does not heal the torn ligaments or muscles. Chiropractic care addresses the physical structure of the injury for true healing.
How long does recovery take?
It depends on the severity of the impact. Soft tissue healing takes time (weeks to months). We will outline a specific care plan during your Report of Findings so you know what to expect.
